Dragon Ball Z: Goku Was Right To Lend Perfect Cell a Senzu Bean

Dragon Ball Z: Goku Was Right To Lend Perfect Cell a Senzu Bean

The Z fighters were enraged when Goku throws Perfect Cell a Senzu Bean to fight with Gohan in Dragon Ball Z. Here's why it was right to lend Perfect Cell a Senzu Bean.

Dragon Ball Z anime fans still discuss whether Goku is a good father or a bad father, with his decision to let Gohan fight Perfect Cell frequently brought up as support for the latter side. On the top, the entire world's fate on his son's (Son Gohan) shoulders, confidently Goku throws Cell a Senzu Bean to ensure he's fully powered up to fight his son (Gohan).

The other Z fighters, Gohan and Cell himself, we're unable to believe that could Goku be arrogant as to send his loving son into a battle that he can't win and then reawaken the enemy to boot? It was very ruthless, but by looking closer at the situation, the source of Gohan's unimaginable power shows that Goku took the right decision.

While training inside the Hyperbolic Time Chamber with Gohan, Goku acknowledges how his son's (Gohan) power worked. Gohan's ability to surpass ascend past a Super Saiyan had emerged, but only if he was in the most dangerous situation and his deepest rage was triggered. Goku himself wasn't able to make that transformation at that time, so he figured out, it was unlikely he (Goku) could defeat Cell on his own, and other Z fighters weren't strong enough or fast enough, in Trunks' case, he expected from the beginning that Earth's fate would rest on his son's (Gohan) young shoulders.

This is the reason why Goku fought Cell first (Oops!! Mr. Satan was the first one to fight Perfect Cell ), even after knowing he couldn't win. He wanted to ensure his son (Gohan) could read all of Perfect Cell's movements and study his fighting style. Using this method, there would be no surprises when Gohan's turn came around to fight. Of course, Goku intended to defeat Perfect Cell by himself. Goku's instant transmission and Kamehameha Wave combo would've exterminated any other opponent, except one who can regenerate if even one micro size cell is left alive.

Gohan is a peace-lover, so Goku had to create the most life-threatening situation possible to awaken his son's (Gohan) dormant power. Restoring Perfect Cell up again with a Senzu Bean was part of the plan. If Goku had his son (Gohan) entered the fight against a Drained and weakened Cell, his mental condition would have been very different, and his dormant power would not have been awakened. The normal Super Saiyan Gohan's powers and his lack of fighting experience would have ensured Cell's victory. However, by battering Gohan for a while, then sending the Cell Jr  (Junior) to attack his friends and Android 16's dying call, Cell triggered Gohan's dormant power as he stepped up to SSJ2.

Goku also had to keep his plan a total secret from everyone else as long as possible. However, Gohan figured it out during the fight, if Gohan had known beforehand that he'd be Earth's last hope, he would've been afflicted with self-doubt and he wouldn't have focused on watching Goku's fight properly. It wasn't a very great look for Goku to remain smiling the entire time Gohan was getting a hit hard, but Goku knew what he was doing all along though he didn't expect SSJ2 Gohan's arrogance and the following cause.

If Gohan defeated Cell at top power, it would leave no room for doubt in Goku's mind that there was someone greater and stronger than him on Earth, and he could stay away to protect his friends and others from threats that targeted him. Goku likely didn't win any father of the year awards for his plan and actions, but it was the only way to defeat Cell and save the human race.
